Enhancing SharePoint Administrator Training for the Real Estate Management Industry

Client

CARA’s client is one of the nation’s largest real estate investment firms.

Challenge

This client implemented Microsoft’s SharePoint enterprise edition and only had a basic overview of the software’s functionality available for learning purposes.

The client recognized that the course needed the following enhancements:

• More interactivity for the learner in order to create a more effective learning experience
• More introductory SharePoint concepts
• Practical scenarios that helped learners link the company’s business strategies to the design and
  maintenance of their workspaces

Solution

The client partnered with CARA to:

• Identify additional topics and activities to be covered in the basic course
• Determine what topics and activities to be included in a more advanced course
• Create a new look and feel for the two courses
  

Based on CARA’s understanding of the scope of the project, two instructional design consultants were
recommended. The following deliverables were created:

• Communication plan which summarized project plans and outlined communication between client
  and CARA consultants
• Project plan which outlined milestone and deadline dates for review and incorporating edits
• Design documents outlining the topics, learning activities, scenarios and content to be included
  within the courses
• Template to be used to create the courses
• Style guide on how to use the templates and the styles used in the documentation
• Instructor guides and participant guides, referenced links to online Quick Tips, participant activities and
  unit reviews (scenarios)
• An evaluation appropriate for “pre and post” student assessments
• PowerPoint presentations for both courses that included objectives, agenda, etc.
• Quick reference card

Results

The enhancements CARA provided enabled the client to roll the basic SharePoint course out sooner than
anticipated, and provided a design framework for the client to continue developing the next level of
SharePoint training.
